Gabriela Montero

Audiences who enjoy acts like Gabriela Montero know that pop music and rock music are generally considered to be the types of music that the broadest audience will listen to. Pop and Rock artists target the "mainstream" through the use of catchy rhythms, melodies, and lyrics. Pop and rock music is often ranked in charts based on record sales, airplay, or a combination of both. Pop and rock artists are responsible for two of the most commercially successful and widely listened-to genres in the history of music.

One of the biggest pop music artists of all time is Madonna, who is often referred to as the "Queen of Pop." Britney Spears was often called the "Princess of Pop", and Michael Jackson was known as the "King of Pop." In a similar way, Elvis Presley was referred to as the "King of Rock n' Roll" in his day, and The Beatles are still recognized as one of the most legendary pop groups worldwide. Currently, One Direction and Lady Gaga are well known acts in the pop music genre, while the Dave Matthews Band, Pearl Jam, and Queen are among the most popular rock bands. Artist Info

A classical piano prodigy from Venezuela, Gabriela Montero has played with some of the world's most storied orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Philharmonic, and the NDR in Hannover, Germany. Her first performance, at the age of five, led to a concerto debut with the Venezuelan Youth Orchestra ‘Simon Bolivar' just three years later. She was given a scholarship by her nation's government, and went on to study in the United States. Before she reached her teens, she had already gained worldwide recognition and won the Baldwin National Competition and the AMSA Young Artist International Piano Competition. Eventually, Montero would perform at such storied venues as the Lincoln Center, the Herkulessaal in Munich, and Orchard Hall in Tokyo. 2005 saw the release of Montero's debut album, Piano Recital, on EMI Classics. A two disc affair, it contained work by Liszt and Chopin, and a disc containing her own improvisational work. Bach and Beyond followed in 2006, and in 2007 she released the album Baroque.
