The Pietasters

Audiences who enjoy acts like The Pietasters know that pop music and rock music are generally considered to be the types of music that the broadest audience will listen to. Pop and Rock artists target the "mainstream" through the use of catchy rhythms, melodies, and lyrics. Pop and rock music is often ranked in charts based on record sales, airplay, or a combination of both. Pop and rock artists are responsible for two of the most commercially successful and widely listened-to genres in the history of music.

One of the biggest pop music artists of all time is Madonna, who is often referred to as the "Queen of Pop." Britney Spears was often called the "Princess of Pop", and Michael Jackson was known as the "King of Pop." In a similar way, Elvis Presley was referred to as the "King of Rock n' Roll" in his day, and The Beatles are still recognized as one of the most legendary pop groups worldwide. Currently, One Direction and Lady Gaga are well known acts in the pop music genre, while the Dave Matthews Band, Pearl Jam, and Queen are among the most popular rock bands. Artist Info

The Pietasters, a ska revival band, were founded in Washington D.C. in 1990 by singer/songwriter Stephen Jackson. In 1992, the group got their first big break when they were chosen as the opening act for a tour by the British ska band Bad Manners. Their first album, The Pietasters, was released by Moon Ska Records in 1993. Oolooloo followed on May 22, 1995. Strapped Live! was issued on April 30, 1996. In 1997, the Pietasters signed to Hellcat/Epitaph, with which they released two albums, Willis (October 7, 1997) and Awesome Mix Tape, Vol. 6 (August 3, 1999). They switched to the Fueled by Ramen label for Turbo (August 6, 2002). All Day was released by Indication Records on August 21, 2007. By that time, the lineup for the group, which had changed throughout its history, was: Jackson, Toby Hansen (guitar and vocals), Jon Darby (keyboards), Jorge Pezzimenti (bass, songwriter), Rob Steward (drums), Carlos Linares (trumpet), Jeremy Roberts (trombone), and Alan Makranczy (saxophone).
