Kishi Bashi

Audiences who enjoy acts like Kishi Bashi know that pop music and rock music are generally considered to be the types of music that the broadest audience will listen to. Pop and Rock artists target the "mainstream" through the use of catchy rhythms, melodies, and lyrics. Pop and rock music is often ranked in charts based on record sales, airplay, or a combination of both. Pop and rock artists are responsible for two of the most commercially successful and widely listened-to genres in the history of music.

One of the biggest pop music artists of all time is Madonna, who is often referred to as the "Queen of Pop." Britney Spears was often called the "Princess of Pop", and Michael Jackson was known as the "King of Pop." In a similar way, Elvis Presley was referred to as the "King of Rock n' Roll" in his day, and The Beatles are still recognized as one of the most legendary pop groups worldwide. Currently, One Direction and Lady Gaga are well known acts in the pop music genre, while the Dave Matthews Band, Pearl Jam, and Queen are among the most popular rock bands. Artist Info

Singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist K Ishibashi was born in Seattle, Washington but spent his formative years on the East Coast, where he honed his skills as a touring violinist for the likes of Sondre Lerche, Regina Spektor, and, later, Of Montreal. In 2003 he co-founded the Brooklyn-based indie pop outfit Jupiter One, who went on to release a pair of EPs and two full-length albums. In 2011 Ishibashi embarked on a solo career, adopted the pseudonym Kishi Bashi, and began opening shows for Lerche, Alexi Murdoch, and Of Montreal, eventually releasing the kaleidoscopic and melodic 151A, his full-length solo debut under the moniker, in April 2012. Ishibashi's sophomore outing, Lighght, followed in early 2014. A year later, he issued String Quartet Live!, which featured selections from his first two albums skillfully arranged by Ishibashi for himself and string quartet, with appearances by Tall Tall Trees (modified banjo/vocals) and Elizabeth Ziman (vocals). It also featured a cover of the Talking Heads' "This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody)."
