Daya

Audiences who enjoy acts like Daya know that pop music and rock music are generally considered to be the types of music that the broadest audience will listen to. Pop and Rock artists target the "mainstream" through the use of catchy rhythms, melodies, and lyrics. Pop and rock music is often ranked in charts based on record sales, airplay, or a combination of both. Pop and rock artists are responsible for two of the most commercially successful and widely listened-to genres in the history of music.

One of the biggest pop music artists of all time is Madonna, who is often referred to as the "Queen of Pop." Britney Spears was often called the "Princess of Pop", and Michael Jackson was known as the "King of Pop." In a similar way, Elvis Presley was referred to as the "King of Rock n' Roll" in his day, and The Beatles are still recognized as one of the most legendary pop groups worldwide. Currently, One Direction and Lady Gaga are well known acts in the pop music genre, while the Dave Matthews Band, Pearl Jam, and Queen are among the most popular rock bands. Artist Info

Grand like Lorde but also sunshine-bright like Katy Perry, singer and songwriter Daya (born Grace Tandon) first climbed the charts as a 16-year-old high school junior. Born and raised in the Pittsburgh suburb of Mount Lebanon, Pennsylvania, she began taking piano lessons at the age of three, and moved on to voice lessons at the age of ten. Songwriting came later, and in 2014 she signed with the Z-Entertainment label based on her demos. A year later, her single "Hide Away" took off thanks to early adopters like Tyler Oakley, Perez Hilton, and other superstar bloggers. In 2015, Daya released her debut, self-titled EP on Artbeatz. She also contributed vocals to the Chainsmokers' 2016 Billboard Top 20 hit, "Don't Let Me Down."
