Whiskey Myers

Though country music was originally performed on a local level or in family or town settings, it eventually found its way into the radio, television, and concert tour businesses. Today, performers like Whiskey Myers, Tim McGraw, and Carrie Underwood have huge fan bases and manage to sell out concert halls around the world. These performers use guitars, bass, drums, and even harmonicas or banjos to create a distinctive, twangy, and down-to-earth sound.

Folk music is a traditional form of music that was revived when popular mainstream artists brought back old folk songs. Bob Dylan is one of the performers who is widely credited with reviving the art. Other popular artists include Lynyrd Skynyrd and K.D. Lang. Usually, folk music is rooted deeply into a country's culture and heritage and is passed down from generation to generation. Artist Info

Built on the Lynyrd Skynyrd Southern rock template, complete with country and blues overtones, Whiskey Myers formed in Elkhart, Texas when housemates Cody Cannon (lead vocals and guitar) and Cody Tate (lead guitar) began writing songs together. Soon enlisting the help of friend and guitarist John Jeffers, the trio began calling themselves Lucky Southern. Relocating to Tyler, Texas, they added Jeff Hogg (drums) and Gary Brown (bass) to the band, and after a name change to Whiskey Myers, began playing whatever gigs they could find in the East Texas area, attracting a large and enthusiastic following. Signing with Smith Entertainment, the band released a debut album, Road of Life, in 2008, following it with Firewater on the band's own Wiggy Thump imprint in 2011.
