Rodney Carrington was born in Longview, Texas, on October 19, 1968, and currently resides near Tulsa, Oklahoma. Carrington originally did not intend to become a comedian. While attending Kilgore College, he joined the school's drama program and, according to TV.com, seemed interested in pursuing it. However, after participating in an open-mic night, he changed his career to comedy.

Embracing this new calling, Carrington started appearing on syndicated radio shows such as Bob and Tom and John Boy and Billy. It was here that he first started gathering an audience, and it paid off. In 1998 Carrington released his first album, Hangin' with Rodney, which reached number 73 on the Billboard U.S. Country chart. After the release of Hangin', Carrington's popularity exploded. He has followed up his debut album with five more, including one live and one compilation album. Apart from his albums, Rodney Carrington has done work in other media, including television and film. From 2004-2006, he starred as Rodney Hamilton in the quasi-biographical television series Rodney. Then, in 2008, he and Toby Keith co-wrote and co-starred in the film Beer for My Horses.

Rodney Carrington has additionally developed friendships with Carrot Top and Barry Martin, who was Carrington's opening act for 15 years until his death. Martin would later be honored with a character in Rodney. Carrington's style has often been compared to Larry the Cable Guy of Blue Collar Comedy Tour fame, who also sometimes invokes bawdy comedy. With highly charting albums, several specials and a movie to his name, along with an ever-growing fan base, Rodney Carrington's star has continued to rise.

Artist Info

A native of Longview, TX, country comedian Rodney Carrington built a cult following through his regular exposure on syndicated morning radio shows, at the same time relentlessly touring the nation's comedy club circuit. His debut LP, Hangin' with Rodney, appeared in mid-1998; Rodney Carrington: Live followed a year later and Morning Wood in mid-2000. After the 2003 release Nut Sack, Carrington landed his own sitcom on the ABC network. Simply titled Rodney, it ran for two seasons from 2004 to 2006. The 2007 album King of the Mountains made the Top 20 on Billboard's Country Albums chart and then, in 2008, Rodney co-starred and co-wrote the feature film Beer for My Horses with Toby Keith. Keith would produce El Niño Loco, Carrington's first all-song album, which was released in 2009. By the end of that year he released the mostly serious Make It Christmas, his first holiday album.
