Moonshine Bandits

Hip-hop is not only a musical genre, but also an entire cultural movement that originated mainly in Jamaica and was brought to urban New York City in the 1970s. Hip-hop found its way into the mainstream in the early 1990s and is now amongst the most popular music genres worldwide. Hip-hop culture can be identified by its fashion trends and other unique aspects, including breakdancing and beatboxing. The culture has inspired a number of artists, including Moonshine Bandits.

One of the most vital elements of hip-hop is rap, a form of achieving rhythm through spoken words that rhyme. Rap originated in West African tradition where wandering poets, called griots, would bring their stories from village to village. Today, there are dozens of famous rap and hip-hop artists. Wycleff Jean, Kanye West, and Jay-Z are among the best-known artists of the 21st century. Other popular rappers include The Roots and Bow Wow. Artist Info

Coming at the hick-hop genre from an old-school angle, like Johnny Cash meets the Beastie Boys, Central California's Moonshine Bandits feature rappers Tex and Bird. Only Bubba Sparxxx, Haystak, and a handful of other artists were mixing country, rap, and rock when the group made its debut in 2003 with the album Soggy Crackerz. Sparxxx made a guest appearance on their 2006 effort Prohibition, as did Danny Boone from the group Rehab, while the Bay Area's slang king, E-40, lent his skills to 2009's Divebars and Truckstops. In 2011, they signed with the Suburban Noize label and released Whiskey and Women, while 2014 saw Calicountry land with guest shots from a returning Danny Boone along with new friend Colt Ford. The Bandits' success continued to grow with Calicountry reaching #22 on Billboard's Country Albums chart and it's follow-up, 2015's Blacked Out reaching #13.
