Grupo Niche

Latin music is an all encompassing genre that features performers from Latin America, including Spanish, Portuguese, and Creole singers. It incorporates nearly all genres of music, from pop to rock to jazz. Some of the most popular genres include Latin pop, tejano, mariachi, and genres related to Latin American-based dances such as the salsa and the samba. Latin music has been developed by combining European, African, and indigenous influences, and includes performers like Grupo Niche

Latin music is also a key element in some fusion genres. In the late 1980s, Latin performers in Puerto Rico combined their music with Jamaican-developed reggae and created reggaeton. Popular Latin singers and bands include Julio Iglesias, Vicente Fernandez, and Aventura. Latin music is not popular just in Mexico and South America. In recent years, the music has reached a global audience, with performers finding success in North America, Europe, and many other areas of the world! Artist Info

Colombian Grupo Niche was formed by Jairo Varela, joined by pianist Nicolas Cristanelo, bassist Francisco García, sax player Alí Garcés, trombonist Alexis Lozano, percussionist Luis Pacheco, singers Jorge Bassam, and Héctor Viveros, making their debut with the release of Al Pasito in 1980. After becoming one of the major tropical acts in their native country, the group had the opportunity to participate in a salsa festival at New York's Madison Square Garden in 1986. Grupo Niche's new lineup debuted in 1987 with Tapando El Hueco, touring Europe for the first time in 1989. A year later, Puerto Rican singer Tito Gómez decided to leave the band, being replaced by Colombian Carlos Alberto Cardona. During the '90s, Grupo Niche turned to romantic lyrics, leaving behind their traditional songs based on social issues.
