After Chicago and Earth, Wind & Fire’s “Heart and Soul Tour 2015,” the two groups decided to team up again for a 2016 tour. Titled “Heart and Soul Tour 2.0,” the bands will kick off their 15-show trek on March 23 at Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, FL and will make stops across the United States before wrapping up on April 18 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Chicago was originally formed at DePaul University while the group's members were music students at the school. They played late night gigs around campus under the moniker The Big Thing and grew from just a few students to a seven member band. Playing only cover songs in the beginning, they featured unusual instruments for a rock band, including a saxophone, trombone, and trumpet. Their success playing covers led to them beginning to write original compositions and eventually signing with Columbia Records. They changed their name upon signing with the label to The Chicago Transit Authority and released their debut album under that same name.
The album eventually reached the Top 20 on the charts, but would also mark the last time the band would be known by that name. The actual Chicago Transit Authority opposed the use of that name and in response the group shortened it to Chicago. Over the next decade, Chicago would release 12 albums to the public, all reaching the Top 25, with five of them peaking at the #1 position.
When people think about the band Chicago, many would not place them among the most popular bands of all time. But according to the Billboard charts, Chicago ranks second only to the Beach Boys in terms of singles and albums. Get your Chicago tickets at TicketRoom.com today!
