Originally on track to be a classical violin player, Alison Krauss changed her focus to bluegrass music at a young age and was soon declared the "Most Promising Fiddler in the Midwest." By 1984, she had met Dan Tyminski and a few years later Union Station was formed, though Tyminski would not join until 1994. In 1985, she released her debut independent album, Different Strokes, and two years later released her first major label album, Too Late to Cry.
In 1989, the first album under the Alison Krauss and Union Station moniker, Two Highways was released, and in 1990 she released I've Got That Old Feeling, for which she won a Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Recording. Union Station's next album, Every Time You Say Goodbye (1992) also won a Grammy for Best Buegrass Album. The group's 1995 compilation album, Now That I've Found You, brought them into the mainstream, and subsequent albums, So Long, So Wrong (1997), New Favorite, Lonely Runs Both Ways (2004), and Paper Airplane (2011) have found a good deal of commercial success.
Although her main work is with Union Station, Krauss has also recorded with fellow bluegrass act The Cox Family, with rocker Robert Plant, and singer-songwriter James Taylor. She and Union Station have also toured with Kacey Musgraves, The Devil Makes Three, and Willie Nelson.
